We work with all insurance providers

We work with most major insurance providers. Select your carrier to learn how windshield and auto glass claims work and how to schedule Auto Glass Guys.

How insurance claims work

Auto Glass Guys works with insurance carriers to help customers navigate covered auto glass repairs. Coverage, deductibles, claim approval, and repair options are determined by your individual insurance policy and carrier. Auto Glass Guys is not affiliated with or endorsed by the insurance companies shown above.

How auto glass insurance claims work

Comprehensive car insurance typically pays for adas calibration and vehicle technology — and we handle the entire claim for you. Here's exactly what happens, step by step.

  1. Step 1: Check your coverage

Auto glass is covered under the comprehensive portion of your policy — not collision. Many Washington policies include a $0 or reduced glass deductible, and most insurers waive the deductible entirely for chip repair. Have your policy or insurance card handy and we can confirm what applies.

  2. Step 2: We file the claim for you

You never have to call your insurance company or fill out forms. We verify your coverage, open the claim directly with your insurer, and handle all the paperwork — Washington law lets you choose your own glass shop, so no one can steer you elsewhere.

  3. Step 3: Insurance pays us directly

Once the claim is approved, your insurer pays us for the job. You only pay your glass deductible (if any) at the time of service. If your deductible is higher than our cash price, we’ll show you both numbers so you can pick the cheaper route.

  4. Step 4: We come to you

After approval, we schedule mobile service at your home or workplace. The whole process — claim to new glass — usually happens within a few days, and every install carries our lifetime workmanship warranty.

How direct billing works — you never front the money

You pay nothing up front — no deposit, no card on file, no claim forms to fill out.

We bill your insurance carrier (or their claims administrator) directly for the full job.

You only pay your glass deductible at the time of service — and only if your policy has one.

If the claim is somehow denied after install, we sort it out with your carrier — never a surprise bill to you.

Cash vs. insurance — we show you both

If your glass deductible is higher than our cash price, paying cash costs less — and a claim isn't always worth it. We'll give you the exact cash price and your claim cost side by side before you choose.

Safety technology, explained

What is ADAS and how does it work?

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — a suite of electronic safety features built into most modern vehicles. These systems don't just react to crashes; they actively work to prevent them. Every ADAS feature runs on the same three-layer pipeline: sensors collect data, computers interpret it, and the vehicle takes action.

Layer 1

Sensors — the eyes

Cameras (often bonded to your windshield), radar units, and ultrasonic sensors continuously scan the road: lane markings, vehicles ahead, pedestrians, and obstacles.

Layer 2

Computers — the brain

Electronic control units process that sensor data in real time, comparing it against manufacturer-programmed parameters to decide whether the situation is safe.

Layer 3

Actions — the response

The system responds in two ways: warnings to you (dash alerts, chimes, steering vibration) and physical interventions (auto-braking, steering correction, speed adjustment).

Common ADAS examples in your vehicle

Adaptive cruise control

Maintains your set speed and automatically slows or accelerates to keep a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead.

Automatic emergency braking

Detects an imminent frontal collision and applies the brakes if you don’t react in time — one of the most crash-preventing ADAS features.

Lane departure warning

Watches lane markings through a camera; if you drift without signaling, it warns you and can gently steer you back.

Blind spot detection

Radar sensors monitor the zones beside and behind you, lighting a mirror indicator or sounding an alert before you change lanes into another vehicle.

Parking assistance

Ultrasonic sensors measure parking spaces and nearby obstacles — backing you in automatically or warning you before contact.

Why this matters for auto glass: many of these features — especially adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning — depend on a camera mounted directly to your windshield. Replace the glass, and that camera's sight angle can shift by millimeters. That's exactly why recalibration exists.

Our process

How Auto Glass Guys recalibrates your vehicle — step by step

Recalibration isn't guesswork. We follow a three-phase, OEM-specified procedure that eliminates physical variables, realigns your sensors to factory precision, and proves the result before your vehicle goes back on the road.

Phase 1 — Pre-calibration & vehicle prepRequired for both methods

Before any programming starts, our technicians eliminate every physical variable that could throw off the sensors.

Pre-repair scan

We connect an OEM-compatible diagnostic scan tool to read your vehicle’s baseline condition and identify any stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) before programming starts.

Mechanical standardization

The car must sit exactly level per manufacturer specs — we set tire pressures, check wheel alignment, fill the fuel tank, and make sure the trunk is free of heavy cargo.

Sensor cleaning

We physically clean the windshield glass and external sensor lenses so dirt, smudges, or obstructions can’t throw off the calibration readings.

Phase 2 — The calibration process(your vehicle's make and model dictates which procedure)

Option A: Static calibration (in-shop setup)

Standard for forward-facing cameras and radar units after windshield or bumper replacements.

  1. 1

    Environmental setup

Your vehicle is placed in a flat, open bay with uniform, diffused lighting — the background must be completely clear of clutter, tools, or shadows that could confuse the cameras.

  2. 2

    Geometrical alignment

We establish your vehicle’s exact mathematical centerline using lasers, plumb bobs, and wheel-mounted optical targets.

  3. 3

    Physical target positioning

Using specialized ADAS rigs, OEM-compliant target boards are placed at exact distances, angles, and heights relative to your car.

  4. 4

    Execute the electronic reset

The scan tool commands your vehicle’s computer to run the calibration routine — the cameras scan the targets, measure misalignment data, and automatically save the corrected angles.

Option B: Dynamic calibration (on-road drive)

The car's computer learns its parameters from real-world driving environments.

  1. 1

    Initiate calibration mode

We plug the scan tool into your car’s OBD-II port, open the ADAS menu, and start a dynamic calibration session.

  2. 2

    Execute the prescribed drive test

The technician takes the car onto an open road with clearly visible lane markings and minimal traffic.

  3. 3

    Maintain target conditions

The manufacturer dictates exact parameters — for example, holding a constant 40–60 MPH for a set distance while keeping the vehicle perfectly centered in its lane.

  4. 4

    Monitor and save

The scan tool tracks progress in real time; once the camera has mapped enough roadway data, the software confirms a successful calibration.

Phase 3 — Validation & quality control

Calibration isn't done until it's proven. Every job finishes with three verification steps:

Post-calibration verification scan

A final diagnostic scan confirms all trouble codes are cleared and every safety module is active.

On-road validation drive

A final test drive safely verifies that features like adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist react exactly as intended.

Documentation

You receive an official calibration report certifying your sensors were realigned to exact OEM specifications.
