What Is ADAS & Why Recalibration Matters

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) power critical vehicle safety feature

  • Lane Departure Warning

  • Forward Collision Alert

  • Adaptive Cruise Control

  • Lane Keep Assist

  • Traffic Sign Recognition

These systems rely on precision sensors and cameras—often mounted directly to or behind the windshield. When that windshield is replaced, even a millimeter of misalignment can compromise your vehicle's safety response.

When Do You Need ADAS Recalibration?

  •  After windshield replacement

  •  Following collision repairs

  •  If ADAS sensors/cameras are disconnected

  •  After suspension or alignment service

  •  If a warning light is active

  •  When upgrading to an aftermarket windshield

Frequently Asked Questions – ADAS Recalibration

Please reach us at Autoglass.guys.llc@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes. Most modern vehicles with forward-facing cameras or sensors require recalibration after a windshield replacement. OEMs and insurance providers mandate this to ensure critical safety features function properly.

  • Static Calibration: 1 to 2 hours

  • Dynamic Calibration: 30 to 60 minutes

  • Both (Dual Calibration): Up to 2.5 hours

Timing may vary based on vehicle make/model and environmental conditions.

Yes. If you're filing a glass claim, ADAS recalibration is typically covered under comprehensive coverage—either fully or with your deductible applied.

Skipping recalibration can lead to:

  • Malfunctioning lane departure warning

  • Inaccurate collision avoidance detection

  • Faulty adaptive cruise control behavior

  • Vehicle safety system error lights

  • Potential legal liability in a crash

Driving without proper recalibration may disable or compromise ADAS functionality.

  • Static Calibration requires your vehicle to be positioned in front of alignment targets in a shop setting.

  • Dynamic Calibration involves driving the vehicle while connected to OEM diagnostic tools to adjust sensors on the road.

Some vehicles require both types. We identify this using your vehicle’s VIN.

Look for these indicators:

  • A camera mounted behind the rearview mirror

  • Features like lane assist, automatic braking, or forward collision warning

  • Warning lights on your dashboard related to driver assistance

  • Verification from your owner's manual or VIN check

We also verify ADAS presence during your windshield service booking.

We use OEM-certified scan tools, laser-guided targeting systems, and factory calibration protocols. This ensures compliance with all major manufacturers, including:

  • Toyota Safety Sense

  • Honda Sensing

  • Ford Co-Pilot360

  • GM Super Cruise

  • Tesla Autopilot

  • Subaru EyeSight

  • And more...

It depends on the system. While the car may be drivable, ADAS features may be inactive or dangerously misaligned until proper recalibration is completed.

We strongly recommend not relying on any driver assistance features until the calibration process is finalized.

Some aftermarket windshields are not ADAS-compatible or lack clarity coatings needed for accurate camera readings. We only use ADAS-approved OEM or OEE glass for vehicles requiring recalibration.

Yes. Delaying recalibration increases the risk of unsafe driving conditions. Many ADAS systems won’t self-correct or “learn” new calibrations over time.

We support over 90% of ADAS-equipped vehicles on the road today, including:

  • Toyota, Honda, Subaru

  • Ford, GM, Chrysler

  • BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi

  • Tesla, Volvo, Hyundai, Kia

  • Commercial vans & trucks with camera systems

Yes—for dynamic calibrations, we offer mobile recalibration at your home, office, or dealership.
For static calibrations, you'll need to visit our certified recalibration facility.

Costs vary based on:

  • Vehicle make and model

  • Calibration type (static, dynamic, dual)

  • OEM procedures

Typical range: $175 – $325. Covered by insurance in most cases.

  1. Scan the vehicle for existing DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes)

  2. Perform static and/or dynamic calibration using OEM specs

  3. Validate all ADAS systems post-calibration

  4. Provide a printed calibration report for your records or insurer
